A Leaking Tap in Gordon
Gertie was fed up with the tap. The darn thing wouldn’t turn off! In a fit of anger, she gave it a mighty shove, and the tap’s stony indifference to her attack made her angrier still.
A few months back, she had observed that someone had left the hot water faucet in the bathroom in a slightly ‘on’ position. Muttering to herself about the carelessness of all the men in her family, she had turned the faucet off. She turned and walked but before she could reach the door, she heard water dripping from the tap again.
That was when it struck her that may be the boys had not left the tap on, may be the tap was having some plumbing problem. This had gone on for some time, and she had informed everyone at home that the faucet needed special care and attention to prevent water leaks.
Then, a few weeks ago, she had noticed that it was almost impossible to turn off the tap completely. She would tighten the tap head and the leak would stop, but the moment she took her hand away, the leak would start again. At first, it was a very thin stream of water. But recently, the leaks had become more prominent and there was a healthy stream of water flowing out.
Finally, she decided that she should call a plumber to replace the faucet. It was either that or a hefty water bill.
The silver lining was that she already had a great plumber. When she had first moved to Gordon, the house needed some major plumbing repairs. They had searched high and low for a good plumber. That’s how they had found this emergency plumber. This plumber serviced all sorts of plumbing requirements in Killara, Pymble, St Ives, Lindfield, Roseville and Turramurra.
Just as she had expected, the Gordon plumber agreed to look at the leaking tap in an hour’s time. She was pretty sure that they would come on time, and she wasn’t disappointed.
“No, you need not change the faucet. It’s just a problem with the thread. We’ll replace the washer too as it is showing signs of aging,” the plumber said.
The plumber was through with the leaking tap problem in less than twenty minutes. They tested the faucet and Gertie was totally satisfied with the plumber’s work. She was also very happy with the bill and she found herself thanking her lucky stars for having found a plumber who knew his work and took pride in a great job.
