A Water Heater Problem in Gordon

“Dylan, can you take a look at the hot water heater? Water is leaking from it,” Floe called out. Dylan had returned the previous night from a week long business trip in China. So, this was a new development for him.

“When did this start?” he asked his wife.

“Umm..about three days after you left,” she replied, coming into the kitchen with the baby on her hip.

Dylan punched his son lightly on the cheek and went to check out the hot water heater. Just as Floe had indicated, a good amount of water was flowing from the copper pipe that came out vertically from the hot water system.

Dylan decided to open the pipe and look inside. He could probably spot the problem and rectify it in a few minutes.

He shut off the power to the hot water system and drained off a few gallons of water so that the water wouldn’t hit his face when he tried to unscrew the pipe. He then used a pipe wrench to unscrew the pipe. But the pipe was fixed very tight and he could not get the thread to turn even an inch.

After trying for a few minutes more, Dylan decided that he had better stop before the pipe broke. Instead, he decided to do something more reasonable – call their Gordon plumber and ask them to take a look at it. There seemed no point in wasting his time over it.

Dylan had complete faith in their Gordon plumber. These guys had a solid reputation in this part of town. They attended to all sorts of plumbing problems in Killara, Pymble, St Ives, Lindfield, Roseville and Turramurra and they were good! Dylan knew that from experience. So, he had no qualms in calling the plumber and asking for assistance. He knew it would be taken care of in the best possible way.

The Gordon plumber arrived in an hour. He took care to remove his shoes before padding into the bathroom.

“I see you tried to remove the pipe after draining off the water. Great thinking,” the plumber said.

“Yeah, but it’s too tight and I couldn’t get it to move an inch,” Dylan replied.

The plumber too had to struggle a little but he finally removed the relief valve.

“Umm... the washer in the valve needs replacement,” the plumber said. Fortunately, the plumber had brought the necessary items with him and was able to change the washer in a matter of minutes. As soon as the pipe was reconnected, Dylan noticed that the leak had stopped.

“That’s it, eh?”

“’Fraid so,” the plumber replied with a crooked smile.

Even though it was a small job, Dylan was happy to pay the bill because the plumber’s exemplary service was really worth every dollar.
